Anti-cyber bullying campaign for School
Championing Internet Safety in my region, has been extraordinary!
As Regional Office of Education#26 Internet Safety Coordinator, I have had specific goals in mind, and so far, have reached and surpassed each one! Since this position was created, every step I take is a new one. It is exciting, invigorating and yet terrifying. I am determined, passionate and extremely dedicated and strive to make my district a LEADER in Internet Safety. I am also in a very unique position, as I work with hundreds of children every single week in a computer lab environment, so I see things, that most do not.
One of my main goals was to develop an anti-cyber bullying campaign in my District. First up, was to author an an anti-cyber bullying policy draft for my school District. I just completed my first draft of said policy, last night. I've never written a policy before, much less one like this. My main goal for this particular policy, was to include not only cyber bullying and cyber harassment which occurs on campus, on school equipment or during school events, but OFF campus as well, since most students are savvy enough to not engage in this type of behavior on school grounds. Several school districts as well as some states, have either passed similar anti-cyber bullying policies in their schools or in their States. I strongly believe, all schools in our Nation, should require anti-cyber bulling policies be implemented. It should be mandatory, not optional. As technology rapidly changes, so do the potential dangers and issues that face our children, we must be proactive, rather than reactive.
I will update you as to the status of this draft policy, as soon as I hear from my Superintendent.
