Be Careful What you Publish On the Net...

It doesn't matter how old or young you are, posting something on the Internet may come back to haunt you.

Did you know that many employers now include social networking sites in their background checks of job applicants?? In a 2007 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), 11% of respondents reported they plan on reviewing social networking profiles when considering qualified employees.

While researching this subject for another column, I found two videos that reiterated this exact point. The first video is from Internet Safety advocate Parry Aftab, and the 2nd one is from RepVine (I debated whether or not to include the RepVine video, as it is a bit "crude").

Although that party you went to last night may have been a blast, the image you portray in real life, and on the Internet, may have serious consequences, as was the case of the college graduate (see earlier post)
