Australian PM Announces Internet Safety Plan
In a recent webcast to over 700 churches, Australian Prime Minister John Howard unveiled a $189 million program to improve online safety for Australians. The "Net Alert" program, will provide free Internet filtering for households, will appoint Internet Safety officers and will include a public awareness campaign.
Australia will be partnering with Internet service providers to deliver a filtered Internet service.
Howard said, "This $189 million program will ensure that Australian parents and carers have the support they need to protect their families based on their own values and their own expectations."
Way to go, Australia!!

Public Awareness Down Under is happening. Last night the national news did a story on cyber bullying via mobile phones and text messages. It was a good story - balanced and inclusive.
Can't wait till we have a country with a zero tolerance toward violence: We've a loooooooog way to go!
Awesome!! I wish I could have heard it! Thank you for sharing and way to go, Australia!!
Sounds like Australia is moving ahead with some pretty good ideas to help with internet safety. I think the free internet filtering program is great. Actually I think the ISP's should have been providing it as a free service everywhere, anyway.
Take care;
Anna
