1 in 4 Toronto Children Bullied
A study conducted by the University of Toronto, reports that 1 in 4 children in the Greater Toronto Area have been targeted by electronic bullies.
Over 2000 children were involved in the study, ranging from grades 6 to 11. Other findings included:
- 10% received unwelcome words or sex-related photos
- 9% were asked to do something sexual on camera
- 1 in 5 admitted to doing the bullying
- Less than 10% told a parent
Parents, please talk to your children about cyberbullying. Study after study reports children do NOT tell a trusted adult if they have been bullied electronically. Telling a trusted adult was something I frequently stressed to my second and third graders.
Bullying, whether online or off, can have serious consequences.
